Two individuals were apprehended at the Burning Man Festival facing assault allegations.
Drew McCarthy was detained on August 26, during the festival’s second day.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office reported his arrest for possession of a lethal weapon, after tragedy already struck on the first day.
Their Facebook statement read: “On August 26, 2024, (Drew McCarthy) was arrested at the Burning Man Festival for (2) Counts of Assault, With The Use of a Deadly Weapon-Aggravated Assault.”
Allison Werner found herself under arrest on Monday as well.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office announced: “On August 26, 2024, (Allison Werner) was arrested at the Burning Man Festival for (2) Counts of Battery on a Protected Person-Simple Assault.”
They emphasized that both McCarthy and Werner are considered “presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
Protected persons typically include law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel.

Another attendee, Salvador Sosa-Davila, faced arrest on the festival’s first day due to narcotics charges.
The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office disclosed: “On August 25, 2024, (Salvador Sosa-Davila) was arrested at the Burning Man Festival for (6) Count of Possession of Schedule (1) or (2) C/S Less Than 14 Grams, 1st or 2nd Offense.”
This comes as tragedy struck as 39-year-old woman, Kendra Frazer, was pronounced dead at Burning Man, with her cause of death still pending.
An autopsy is underway by the Washoe County Medical Examiner and results may take several months.
Kendra was discovered unresponsive at 11:30 am on the first day of the event. In light of the situation, Jerry Allen from the Pershing County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences, stating: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the decedent.
“This is the first reported death on the playa this year and unfortunately it has happened on day one.”
